On May 28, 2021, the fifth meeting of the first council of the Cao Jianyou Foundation for Science and Technology Education in Railway Traction Electrification and Automation was successfully held in Southwest Jiaotong University. The meeting was chaired by Professor Chen Weirong, Dean of the School of Electrical Engineering and Secretary General of the Cao Jianyou Council.
Prof. Chen Weirong made a report on the work of Cao Jianyou Science and Technology Education Foundation from 2019-2021. In the past two years, the School of Electrical Engineering has held several activities for graduates and freshmen to pass on Cao's spirit. Prof. Chen pointed out that the council should actively absorb donations from all walks of life so that more outstanding teachers and students can benefit from it in the future. We should continue to guide students to inherit Mr. Cao's spirit and strive to promote the prosperity of China's rail transit electrification and automation, electric traction and transmission control and information technology.
The Board of Trustees reviewed the candidate list and voted the final list of winners, and then discussed how to improve the selection process for the Cao Jianyou Award in the coming year.
Later, Academician Qian Qingquan, Professor Bai Jiadi, Professor Feng Xiaoyun, Professor Zhu Huaifang, Professor Pan Wei, Professor Fan Pingzhi and Professor Gao Shibin presented the awards to the winners.
Mr. Kang Jinsong of Tongji University, the winner of the Cao Jianyou Education Award, Mr. Zhao Zhiqin of Southwest Jiaotong University, the winner of the Cao Jianyou Student Award, and Mr. Zhang Hongyu of Beijing Jiaotong University, the winner of the Undergraduate Award, made speeches respectively.
At the end of the conference, Prof. Qian Qingquan delivered a speech. Qian said that academician Cao Jianyou has not only laid the foundation for a discipline, but also created an era. The spirit of the scholarship is extremely precious, because it is the footprint of everyone who has fought for the field. He hoped that the winners could carry forward the spirit of Mr. Cao, stay true to their original aspiration, and contribute their own strength to the construction of the motherland.
