First Prize of the 6th National University Homemade Experimental Teaching Equipment Innovation Competition

The 56th China Higher Education Expo was held in Qingdao on May 23. More than 350 entries from universities all over China competed in the final theme event of the expo, the 6th National University Homemade Experimental Teaching Equipment Innovation Competition. Prof. Chen Jinqiang, Prof. Zhao Liping, Prof. Xie Shaofeng and Prof. Xu Kejia from the School of Electrical Engineering won the first prize for their project “3D Virtual Simulation Experiment System for High-speed Railway Traction Power Supply”.

Sponsored by the Chinese Higher Education Society, it is held once every two years as an important part of the National Higher Education Teachers’ Innovation Competition. It is also included in the statistics of National University Teachers’ Teaching Competition Status Data and National University Teachers Teaching Development Index of China Higher Education Association.

Since the launch of the competition, it has gained wide attention from the Office of Assets and Laboratory Management, Academic Affairs Office and Faculty Development Center of SWJTU. In order to promote teaching through experimental reform and technology research, the team carefully made their own experimental teaching instruments and stood out from nearly 1,000 innovative works to enter the final. At the final, the team won the first prize through a series of strict evaluation such as excellent works display, on-site evaluation, commercial show and final defense.

It is reported that the virtual simulation experiment system is mainly applied to the practical process to professional theory courses, such as Introduction to Electrical Engineering. High-speed railroad traction power supply system is fully closed operation and the environment is complex and dangerous, so the classroom teaching is not conducive to the digestion and absorption of abstract knowledge. The virtual simulation experimental system not only has a safe teaching environment, but also integrates the latest technology of high-speed railway development into the course intuitively and realistically, which strengthens the students' intuitive understanding and theoretical analysis ability and exercises their practical ability, and effectively promotes the ability to solve complex engineering problems. The course has achieved wonderful teaching feedbacks.
